Mostly used by Dutch residents and businesses, but everyone can register a .nl domain name
Legal requirements
The registration of a .nl domain name requires an administrative contact address in The Netherlands (P.O. boxes are not allowed).
If you don’t have an address in The Netherlands, you can still order a .nl domain name. Your address will automatically be replaced by the Dutch UniNames contact address.
Technical requirements
If the owner uses his own name servers, they should be configured in advance.
Naming conventions
All letters (a-z) and numbers (0-9) are allowed; hyphens (-) are also allowed, however not at the beginning or at the end of the domain name. A domain name should be between 2 and 63 characters long.
.nl domain names transfers to UniNames are possible. The transfer itself is free, but is considered as a new registration; therefore a 1-year fee will be charged (or more years on request).
Exactly 1 year after you have transferred your domain name, it will expire. Keep in mind that any remaining registration time at your former agent will be lost.
Procedure
.nl transfers can be requested by sending a transfer request through our website.
When UniNames receives a new transfer request, the owner will receive a so called “registration contract” which has to be filled out by the owner and send back to UniNames. A second document will also be sent to the current domain name owner. This document gives UniNames the authority to execute your request.
Additional conditions
After sending both documents to UniNames, we will check if all documents are filled out correctly. The request will then be processed and the old agent and the admin contact will then receive an e-mail that the request is being processed. Once SIDN (Stichting Internet Domein Registratie) has processed your demand and approved it, the transfer will be executed.
If SIDN refuses to proceed with the transfer UniNames will verify why the transfer has been denied. If interaction from the client is needed, UniNames will contact the client.
The billing contact of the domain name will automatically receive an invoice to renew the domain name. If the invoice is paid before the domain name expires, the domain name will be renewed.
Note the importance of correct billing information!
If not paid by the end of the month in which the domain name expires.
==> the domain name will be deleted
If the owner or the billing contact asks us to let the domain name expire:
the domain owner will be notified by e-mail
the domain billing contact will be notified by e-mail
the accounts with permissions on the domain name will be notified by e-mail
