Anyone can register a .in domain name.It is also possible to register a Second-Level-Domain of India. .co.in/.firm.in/org.in is mainly used by companies that are located in India. .gen.in/.net.in is mainly used by companies or by private entities. ind.in is mainly used by individuals who are located in India.

All letters (a-z) and numbers (0-9) are allowed; hyphens (-) are also allowed, however not at the beginning or at the end of the domain name. A domain name should be between 3 and 63 characters long.

Transfers for .in domain names

General information

.in domain names transfers to UniNames are possible. The transfer itself is free, but is considered as a new registration; therefore a 1-year fee will be charged (or more years on request).

Exactly 1 year after you have transferred your domain name, it will expire. Keep in mind that any remaining registration time at your former agent will be lost.

Procedure

.in transfers can be requested by sending a transfer request through our website.
The current owner or admin contact will have to provide UniNames with a so-called authorisation code, which can be obtained through the current agent. The owner as well as the admin contact has the right to request this code. If this code is not provided the transfer will not be executed.

Additional conditions

Ensure that your domain does not have a lock status (REGISTRAR-LOCK or HOLD). If the domain is locked, then the owner should request his current registrar to unlock it.
Make sure that the email-address of the Admin Contact is active. Normally a period of 3 to 4 days will be granted to approve the transfer request. If not, the transfer request will be cancelled automatically. If the admin contact’s e-mail is not active you should ask your current registrar to correct the admin contact’s e-mail address.
The transfer should be initiated some time before the domain name expires. This to avoid that the transfer request is still being processed when the domain has passed its expiration date. If this happens the owner is responsible for the payment of possible fees that may be charged by the current registrar.
Please ensure that the domain is older than 60 days. Otherwise the transfer request will be declined.
