Companies or private entities that are located in Germany mainly use a .de domain name.
Legal requirements
The registration of a .de domain name requires an administrative contact address in Germany. (P.O. boxes are not allowed). If you don’t have an address in Germany, you can still order a .de domain name. Your address will automatically be replaced by the German UniNames contact address.
Technical requirements
The 2 name servers have to be located in a different subnet.
Naming conventions
All letters (a-z) and numbers (0-9) are allowed; hyphens (-) are also allowed, however not at the beginning or at the end of the domain name. A domain name should be between 3 and 63 characters long.
.de domain names transfers to UniNames are possible. The transfer itself is free, but is considered as a new registration; therefore a 1-year fee will be charged (or more years on request). Exactly 1 year after you have transferred your domain name, it will expire. Keep in mind that any remaining registration time at your former agent will be lost
Procedure
.de Transfers can be requested by sending a transfer request through our website.
Once UniNames has received the transfer request, UniNames will send a so-called KK-Antrag to the current admin contact. The current admin contact that lives in Germany has to agree with this transfer. If not, a special procedure will have to be started and your transfer request will be put on hold.
The transfer request will be active up to 1 month. If the admin contact has not reacted after this period, it is still possible to agree with the transfer by using a so-called “LATE ACK”. A clarification will have to be added to the LATE ACK.
Additional conditions
Ensure that your domain does not have a lock status (REGISTRAR-LOCK or HOLD). If the domain is locked, then the owner should request his current registrar to unlock it.
The transfer should be initiated some time before the domain name expires. This to avoid that the transfer request is still being processed when the domain has passed its expiration date. If this happens the owner is responsible for the payment of possible fees that may be charged by the current registrar.
Please inform your current provider that a transfer request has been made on your behalf. This to avoid that your current agent would reject the transfer request.
The KK-antrag is to be faxed to Uninames and to your current agent / registrar. The transfer request will be rejected if you have any open issues with your current registrar. Your current registrar will block the transfer if you still have unpaid invoices.
