WS-FTP Quick Guide

This tutorial will guide you through the configuration of WS-FTP to transfer files between your computer and your web folder. First download and install WS-FTP, then connect to the Internet and open WS-FTP.

Fill in the following information:

Profile Name: www.Domainname.com Host Name: www.Domainname.com User ID: Your Username Password: Your Password

Once you have filled in the information, select the tab: Advanced.
You should see the following screen:

Leave all the settings as they are, however, check the Passive transfers check box.

Click Apply and then OK.

Transfer Files
WS-FTP will now connect to your web folder. You should see a screen similar to the one below:

The pane on the Left is your computer. The pane on the Right is your web folder.

On the Left pane, locate your index.html file. (Double clicking on the Green Arrow takes you to the previous level in the folder tree.)

When you have found your index.html file click on it once to highlight it. Select the ASCII radio button.
To Upload this file, click on the Arrow in the centre, that points to the right.

WS-FTP will let you know when the file has been transferred.

Repeat this process for each file you want to upload. Alternatively you can select several files (with shift+left click or control+leftclick) and transfer the selected files all at once.

Important: all graphics files must be uploaded separately from your HTML files as binary files (select Binary radiobutton). Otherwise they won't display.

If you want to download a file from your web folder to your computer, just reverse the process. (Click the Arrow that points to the left.)
This will leave a copy on the web space. If you want to remove the file, click on the file and then click on Delete (on the right).

When you have finished click on Close. This will disconnect you from your web folder.
