Cute FTP Quick Guide
This tutorial will guide you through the configuration of Cute FTP to
transfer files between your computer and your web folder.
First download and install Cute FTP,
then connect to the Internet and open Cute FTP.
1. Adding your site to the site manager
After opening Cute FTP, the first screen will be 'Site Manager'. Click on
'Add site', then 'Add Host'. You should see something similar to the shot below:

2. Publishing your files (a) Enter the following settings in the Add
Host window:
- Host Address:
www.yourdomainname.be
- Host Type: Auto Detect
- User ID: Insert your username here
- Password: Insert your password here
- Login Type: Normal
- Transfer Type: Auto Detect
- Initial Remote Directory: To go directly to
your web folder, type ../../web/
(b) Click OK from the Add Host window, and you will see the main directory
window which should look like this:

(c) Click F4 to go to the site manager, highlight your site, and then choose
Connect.
(d) To transfer your files, highlight the file you want to
upload in the left window and then select Commands from the toolbar, then choose
Upload. If you want to download a file to your local hard drive for editing,
click on the file in the right window, then choose Commands and then choose
Download.
3. Viewing your web page To view the page you just uploaded, use the
following URL in your web browser:
http://www.yourdomainname.be
This only works, if you named your file index.html. In case you named your
file otherwise, you need to specify the filename as well :
http://www.yourdomainname.be/yourfile.html
Tips
- HTML filenames are case sensitive
- We recommend you upload your files in lowercase only.
- When you write your html files, refer to any image or other html files
in lowercase.
- Usernames and passwords are case sensitive
If you signed up with
UniWeb, and chose Marc (with a capital M) as login name, typing marc (with a
lowercase m) as username, when you publish, would not work. The same applies
to passwords.
